How To Wash Your Hair Properly – The Dos and Don’ts

1. Before shampooing, oil your hair

Apply and massage hair oil into your scalp and hair two to three hours before washing your hair. This can be done using coconut, olive, or mustard oil. The majority of shampoos have harsh substances that can take natural oils from your hair. Oiling your hair before washing it can help you avoid this problem.

2. Straighten Your Hair

Hair knots can be relieved by detangling before shampooing. This is when your hair is dry and knots are easily removed. When your hair is wet, detangling it is difficult. Wet hair is also weaker and more susceptible to breakage.

By splitting it into four portions, you can disentangle it. Always brush your hair before showering. This improves blood circulation in the scalp, minimizing hair loss and preventing clogging of pores. This can also help to prevent split ends.

3. Shampoo Your Hair

Before applying shampoo, give your hair a thorough rinse. Soak it for one minute in water. In this scenario, use lukewarm water (hot water will dry your hair) to help open the pores.

4. Start with warm water

Before and after shampooing, wash your hair with warm water. Warm water aids in the opening of scalp pores. Rinse your hair with warm water before conditioning it. Make sure the water isn’t too hot, as this will damage your hair and cause a burn on your scalp.

5. Make The Shampoo Dilute

Always dilute your shampoo with water before using. The concentration of shampoo used to the hair and scalp will be reduced as a result. Shampoo may include harsh chemicals, so diluting it lowers your chance of hair damage.

6. Take Care of Your Hair

Rinse your hair after shampooing it and apply conditioner. Always avoid putting conditioner straight on your scalp. Apply conditioner with a comb as well, as this ensures an even application. The conditioner can then be rinsed out in 1-2 minutes or left in for a bit longer, according on the guidelines.

After that, thoroughly wash the conditioner. Any residue on your hair can damage it and make it look lifeless.

7. Gently scrub your scalp

Gently scrub your scalp in little circles, never violently. Dirt, skin flakes, residue, and natural oils can all be removed with your hands. After you’ve scrubbed, rinse for a minute with lukewarm water.

8. Give Your Head a Massage

Massage your head in a circular motion with your finger while shampooing, from front to back and back to front. Repeat this process for several minutes. This stimulates and exfoliates the scalp.

9. Finish with a cold water rinse

Rinse your hair with cold water as a last step. Make it a point to eliminate all of your conditioner by rinsing your hair with cold water if at all possible. Rinsing with cold or regular water helps to shut the cuticles and seal the moisture inside each strand.

10. Do Not Rub Your Harshly

Towel dry your hair whenever possible. When rubbing your hair with a towel, never be harsh. This can cause serious damage to your hair and make it appear dull. Instead, try gently squeezing out extra water or allowing your hair to air dry.
